Nicola Fenech Conti


Nicola joined GVZH Advocates in 2016 and forms part of the firm’s corporate department. Nicola’s principal areas of focus include banking and finance, corporate and mergers and acquisitions and financial services and fintech. Nicola has accumulated experience in these areas having assisted various local and international companies with obtaining licenses for regulated business within the payment services industry and the investment services industry. Nicola has also assisted with various local and cross-border acquisitions and restructuring and financing exercises.  

Education & Court Admissions

Nicola read Law at the University of Malta and was conferred a Bachelor of Laws with European Studies in 2014 and a Diploma of Notary Public in 2015. Nicola was called to the bar in 2018 after having obtained her Doctor of Laws in 2017 and having submitted a thesis entitled, ‘The Notion of Permanent Establishment: Developments in the Context of the Digital Economy’. 

Nicola spent a semester in Perugia, Italy as part of the Erasmus Programme, where she read European Constitutional Law at the Università degli studi di Perugia. 


Nicola speaks English and Maltese and has a good understanding of Italian.

Job Highlights

Assisting Calamatta Cuschieri with obtaining an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from the Malta Financial Services Authority for their fully owned subsidiary Moneybase Limited.

Assisting eToro obtain an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from the Malta Financial Services Authority and establish their operations in Malta (April 2021).

Assisting MaltaPost with the acquisition of an equity stake in PostaInsure Agency Limited (previously Untours Insurance Agency Limited).

Advising Mastercard on the roll-out of various programmes and initiatives in the Maltese market (ongoing).

Assisting Lockton European Brokers Limited with obtaining a licence to be listed as an insurance broker on the Insurance Brokers List.

Assisting FEV Holdings Limited with the acquisition of a 51% equity stake in EC Holdings Limited, a local English Language School.
