Katia Cachia

Bio

Katia joined GVZH Advocates in May 2016 and forms part of the firm’s corporate department and her principal areas of practice include Capital Markets, Corporate Law and Mergers and Acquisitions. She often assists in international commercial and financial transactions, mergers and acquisitions and the drafting and negotiation of corporate related matters. 

Her main expertise lies within the reviewing and drafting contractual documentation, the setting up of trusts structures to identify solutions to accommodate specific client requirements, compliance related matters and also assists with all pre-listing formalities to public listed companies in connection with the admission to listing of debt securities on the Official List of the Malta Stock ExchangeKatia’s expertise also covers acting as company secretary to Boards of Directors and Audit Committees of public listed entities. 

Education & Court Admissions

Katia read for her Law degree at the University of Malta and was conferred a Bachelor of Laws with European Studies in 2011, a Diploma of Notary Public in 2012, and a Doctorate of Laws in 2014, after having presented her thesis entitled ‘Jurisdiction on the High Seas: ‘An Analysis of Flag State Exclusivity’ and having successfully completed an ERASMUS programme at Tor Vergata University in Rome, Italy in the same year.  

Katia was admitted to the bar in February 2015. 

After having successfully completed the IFSP Foundation Certificate, Katia has obtained her IFSP Foundation Certificate in Trusts Law and Management in 2016. She then went on to complete and obtain the Malta Institute of Taxation Foundation Certificate in 2017. 

Languages

Katia speaks fluent English and Maltese and has basic knowledge of Italian.
