National Trademarks

A trademark is not only important for the discerning consumer but also for the trader who wants to be competitive on the market. As the name implies, the national trademark will only be applicable to Malta. Registering a national trademark will therefore give one an exclusive right over the trade name in the Maltese territory.

Once registered, a trader will know that his products, once placed on the market, clearly identify him as the source of the products. This also means that good quality items on the market carrying a trademark will be more competitive as consumers will become more likely to seek out that specific trademark as a brand rather than similar generic products. A strong trademark is a difficult thing to compete with once it gains ground.
