An Introduction to a GVZH Guide for British Yacht Owners

“Nothing is agreed”; a phrase which has become extremely popular in recent times amidst the futile efforts of both the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) in avoiding a no-deal Brexit. Since the UK left the block on 31st January 2020, very little has changed. The transition period has meant that temporarily, the UK remains in the EU Customs Union and also has full access to the Single Market. However, with the infamous deadline looming, 31st December 2020 has been left teetering on the edge of a chasm of unknowns. Unquestionably, the UK yachting industry has suffered a major blow in this regard as it seems to have been set aside throughout these negotiations, particularly when relating to yachts’ VAT paid status as well as any other related issues arising vis-à-vis post-Brexit customs.

GVZH Advocates has prepared a guide, based on recent guidelines published by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), providing practical advice and contingency plans for potential UK boat owners to ensure that they are in the best possible position to deal with any outcome of the current Brexit negotiations come deadline day.
