Marina Bernane

Bio

Marina joined GVZH Trustees in 2021 and forms part of the organisation’s Compliance department.

She occupies the position of an AML/CFT & Compliance Administrator, with her main focus being that of ensuring that the organisation conducts its business in a manner which is in line with the regulatory and AML/CFT obligations to which it is subject. More specifically, Marina is heavily involved in managing the client onboarding and ongoing monitoring processes. Her responsibilities include assisting in the process of accepting new clients, particularly by leading and executing the client onboarding process, carrying out customer and jurisdiction risk assessments, conducting CDD, carrying out ongoing monitoring in respect of existing clients and assisting with the preparation of internal and external AML/CFT and compliance-related reports on a periodic basis.

Back in 2018, in her position as Legal Trainee, Marina has successfully completed an ERASMUS+ Traineeship Programme in GVZH Advocates in the unit of Corporate and Trusts department.

Education

Marina is in her final stage of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Business from the Riga Graduate School of Law.

In 2017, Marina participated in the ERASMUS Exchange Programme where she spent a semester at the ‘University of Malta’, Msida, Malta. During this time Marina focused on Commercial Law, International Criminal Law, Taxation, Private International Law and Public Finance Law.

Whilst at the Riga Graduate School of Law, Marina was a member of the SA RGSL (the Student Association of the Riga Graduate School of Law).

Languages

Marina is fluent in English, Russian, and Latvian.
