New Cruise Ship Casino Malta Regulations

13 May 2015

< 1 min read

Earlier this year, the Government of Malta introduced the Cruise Casino Regulations with the aim of regulating the operation of casinos on board cruise ships berthed in Malta or within Maltese territorial waters.

These Regulations are only applicable to cruise ships for pleasure voyages, with a minimum capacity of 150 passengers and passenger living facilities, carrying out a minimum of three ports of call in three different states. The liners who wish to seek approval for cruise casinos to operate within Maltese territorial waters must submit an application and the necessary documents to the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA).

It is pertinent to point out that applications must be filed at least 60 days before the cruise ship is due to call in Malta and the approval is only issued once the fee is paid and the MGA is satisfied that all the requirements have been met.
