Australian start up in row with Apple over ‘HealthKit’
Last week, Apple announced that it shall be using the name ‘HealthKit’ for its new fitness technology – a platform on which users can run fitness apps and share health data.
This creates a problem with an Australian start-up which has already laid claim to the name ‘HealthKit’ for its health platform intended to connect doctors with their patients. The start-up bought the HealthKit domain name in 2012, and also uses the twitter name @HealthKit.
Whilst the start-up’s HealthKit refers to an actual product, Apple’s HealthKit is the name of the application programming interface (API). It is as yet unclear whether the Australian entity will take legal action against Apple over this name clash.
