Updated Wage Supplement Scheme
The wage supplement scheme introduced by the Maltese government in March categorised businesses into Annex A and Annex B according to their NACE code. Businesses could thus apply to Malta Enterprise in order to benefit from this wage supplement scheme between March and June 2020. The wage supplement scheme has been extended for the period between July – September 2020 and the categories of businesses have been updated as well.
Malta Enterprise has issued a list of updated categories for the wage supplement scheme wherein businesses can establish whether they fall under the updated Annex A, Annex B or Annex C in order to establish what wage supplement they are eligible for in this regeneration period.
Annex A, as updated in July, includes business areas such as tourist accommodation, travel agencies, language schools, event organization and air transport. Full time employees will be eligible for €800 per month whilst part timers will be eligible for €500 per month.
Employers (including self-employed) who fell under Annex B between March and June 2020, will retain this aid until September. Annex B was expanded further to include personal services and related activities. Full time employees will be eligible for €160 per month whilst part timers will be eligible for €100.
Annex C encompasses businesses which were previously eligible for this scheme because they fell under Annex A or Annex B between March and June, which however, do not qualify under these Annexes as updated in July. Some of the activities included in Annex C are sale of motor vehicles, catering services and restaurants, taxi operations and various retail activities. Full time employees will be eligible for €600 whilst part time employees will be eligible for €375 per month.
Revisions have also been made and as from July, previously ineligible pensioners and students who were employed as of March but not eligible for the wage supplement under the scheme between March and June, will now be eligible for the wage supplement.
