Every year, May is observed as Mental Health Awareness Month. The purpose of Mental Health Awareness Month is to raise awareness and educate about mental illnesses.
Whilst throughout the pandemic, the priority focus has been on physical health, this tough time has also affected people’s mental health all around the world. There are often misconceptions about mental health and mental health conditions. Our mental health influences how a person thinks, feels and acts. Lack of professional support may trigger risky behaviour and it can also be quite difficult to recognise signs of poor mental health sometimes.
In light of this, GVZH has offered its employees the opportunity to attend the Mental Health First Aid Workplace course which is developed and taught by Richmond Foundation. Through, case-studies, videos and resources tailored to the group’s learning needs, the MHFA course focuses on acquiring knowledge and strategies which aim to improve the confidence and skills for one to offer help to someone developing a mental health problem, someone who is experiencing the worsening of an existing mental health problem or even someone who is in a mental health crisis. These skills can be used both within the workplace, as well as in other aspects of life.
